Collection: FRONT

Anna Lindgren and Sofia Lagerkvist are the founders of Front Design, established in Sweden in 2003; they are committed to design and furniture on a global scale. Based in Stockholm, the studio has a team of collaborators who, in synergy with Anna and Sofia, work between design and art, exploring the creative process of producing objects, furniture and furnishings unconventionally, finding recurring references in nature and science. Their approach derives from Swedish culture and the country's natural features, consisting mainly of forests, woods and lakes.

By observing plants and animals, from large mammals to micro-organisms, the studio investigates the creative force of natural, wild and uncontaminated systems giving life to innovative and experimental objects. Research and attention to detail define their production, which boasts prestigious collaborations with international companies and brands like Axor, Kartell, La Manufacture, Moooi, Moroso, Stelton, Tom Dixon and Wiener GTV Design. With the latter, they produce unusual and ironic objects like the Furia rocking horse series, the Peers laminate and curved wood coffee tables, the Coat Rack Bench, the two-seater Hideout Loveseat sofa and the Arch table and coffee tables.

Collaboration with Axor began in 2013 with the Axor WaterDream shower, an installation of pipes, stop valves, and funnels assembled into original shapes, for which they received Wallpaper's Design Award* in 2014. The Axor ShowerProducts by Front grew from this installation, recognised by the Design Award Germany in 2015. For Moroso, they designed Doodle, a sofa decorated with a series of sketches taken from early design phases, and the Anomaly pouf. They also have a fruitful collaboration with Porro, designing numerous objects, including the Sundial wall clock, the Loop framed oval mirror, the Ellipse elliptical table, the Draped chairs, the Mikado wooden sideboard, the 3Table coffee tables and the Balancing Boxes solid wood coffee table made up of a series of irregularly stacked boxes. For the Tom Dixon brand, they designed the Melt family of polycarbonate LED lamps in wall, ceiling, floor and pendant versions. They have also worked with Ikea and Coin, for whom they designed the Glow collection of lamps. Front's work has been exhibited at MoMA in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, M+ in Hong Kong, the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
