Cats have always played a special role at Tecta.‎ Karlchen the cat is "the real boss of Tecta", says Axel Bruchhäuser.‎ And so it was Karlchen who contacted the British architects Alison & Peter Smithson with a letter to Snuff the cat.‎ The two architects subsequently designed the house for "a man and a cat", a witch's house in the forest, which the two moved into 45 years ago.‎

In the meantime, the fifth generation of Kater Karlchen has made their home here, and at last they dedicated a worthy symbol to their cathood: Kater Karlchen made of wood, painted black and with yellow eyes.‎ A design by Dominik Kirgus from the Studio für Gestaltung in Cologne.‎ Initially, the cat was only intended as a graphic for a Tecta exhibition in Japan, but the Japanese developed such great enthusiasm for history and the animal that Karlchen now comes along as a sculpture on silent paws.‎

The special feature: Dominik Kirgus traced the form back to Bauhaus, using reduced circles and lines that give Karlchen his linear appearance.‎ His round hump proves that he, like all tomcats, has a mind of his own.‎ Add to this the sparkling yellow eyes - a figure as if it had just sprung from Grimm's fairy tale.‎
