Design: Alvar Aalto in 1935 for artek

Concept: Bar stool 64 was designed by the designer and architect Alvar Aalto in 1935 for the Teatro Corso in Zurich. It is now a classic and is known worldwide for its timeless design. This bar stool was designed as a taller variant of the 60 stool, and both versions are characterized by Aalto's typical organic L-shaped legs. Bar stool 64 is made of bent, painted birch wood.

The designer behind: You can't say Artek without also saying Alvar Aalto. The Finnish-born architect and designer was a large part of Artek, and is also behind a large part of Artek's most well-known furniture and lamp designs. At the end of the 1920s, Alvar Aalto experimented with different types of innovative manufacturing methods, which also resulted in the creation of the now world-famous 'L-leg', which today can be found on up to 36 Artek products such as the three-legged 60 stool, or the larger four-legged E60 stool.
