수집: Roberto Barbieri

Roberto Barbieri (Milan, 1942 - 2012) was an Italian architect, graphic artist and designer. Despite his short career, he established himself as an innovative, coherent, and rigorous professional. His work seemed to be heading towards the design of subsidised housing when in 1979, his project for the Cartiglia bed was selected for the exhibition "ltalienische Möbel Design 1950/80", held at the Stadt Museum in Cologne, drawing attention to his work as a designer. A few years later, he began a close collaboration with Zanotta, where he worked until his premature and sudden death in 2012.

His meeting with Aurelio Zanotta allowed Barbieri to realise his innovative ideas, thanks to the support of an excellent technical department in developing high-tech production processes. This synergy led to iconic objects like the Orione table (1996), whose structure in interwoven oak strips joined by steel rods supports a glass top in an unusual play of geometries. Orione was followed by the Lia chair (1999), made of aluminium alloy using the die-casting technique, and the Kate chair (2009) made of moulded polyamide using the Air Moulding technique.

In 2008, Roberto Barbieri began working with another prestigious brand in the furniture sector, Poliform, for which he created the Trevi table (2005), the Flute table collection (2008) with an aluminium base and lacquered MDF or marble top, and the Baba coffee table collection (2012). Roberto Barbieri furniture is characterised by clean lines, light volumes, informal elegance and a design that makes it so timeless that it is still present in the catalogues of the two companies.
