Collection: Alain Gilles

Alain Gilles is a Belgian designer born in 1970 in Brussels. After obtaining a degree in Political Science at the Université Libre in Brussels in 1996 and a master's in Marketing Management at the ICHEC Brussels Management School in 2002, he worked for a few years in international finance. Subsequently, Gilles decided to follow his true passion and devote himself to the world of design. He enrolled in a course in Industrial Design at the Institut Supérieur de Design in Valenciennes, where he graduated in 2005.

In 2003, he began collaborating with designer Xavier Lust and later worked with Quinze & Milan (2005 – 2007) as project manager and head of design. In 2007, he founded Alain Gilles The Studio, based in Brussels, which works in product design, furniture design, art direction, installations and set design. He initiated a series of collaborations with international brands like Ligne Roset, Bonaldo, BuzziSpace, Varaschin, Vincent Sheppard, La Chance, Casamania, XL Boom, Greenmood, Another Country, and Miniforms.

Gilles established a fruitful partnership with BuzziSpace, designing a series of products, including the BuzziPicNick collection with table, desk and bench; the BuzziMirage mirror; the BuzziTable meeting table; the BuzziSpark fabric sofa and armchair; the BuzziMilk upholstered stool; the BuzziSpace and BuzziHub acoustic islands; the BuzziHood telephone booths and the BuzziBlinds and BuzziTemp office partitions. With Bonaldo, he designed the Geometric Table Wood table; the Backdrop wooden sideboard with hinged doors; the Dogma self-supporting open wood bookcase; the Big Table steel table with top in wood, ceramic and crystal; the round marble Mass Table; the Combination round coffee tables in painted metal, the Structure modular sofa and armchair; the Tracks extendable crystal table and the Eddy armchair. Alain Gilles created numerous furnishing solutions for Greenmood, which specialises in acoustic elements and systems combined with vegetation. They include the Landscape, Harmony, Geometric and Synergy variants of the Framed series acoustic moss wall panels; the G-Divider plant-stabilised plant wall; the Modulor sound-absorbing office partitions; and the Ring acoustic suspension panel.

Many of Gilles's products have received prestigious awards, including several editions of the Henry Van De Velde Award, the Design for Asia Golden Award, the Red Dot Best of the Best, the Good Design Award and the ADA Archiproducts Design Awards. In 2012, he was named 'Designer of the Year' by the Biennale Interieur Fair in Kortrijk (Belgium).
