Collection: Monica Armani
Monica Armani was born in Trento in 1964. Daughter of architect Marcello Armani, a well-known exponent of the Italian rationalist movement, she works in architecture, interior and product design. Her creations stand out for the elegance of their pure, refined forms and their solid functional performance. In 1996, Monica Armani created "Progetto 1" with Luca Dallabetta. This self-produced collection established her as a leading figure in contemporary design. In collaboration with Jean Nouvel, she designed the renovation of the former Cinema Excelsior in Milan. Two stacked movie theatres were transformed into a large commercial space, incorporated into a larger project on seven floors connected by a single space, enhancing the site's former use.
An essential element for Monica Armani is lighting, in its broadest sense. In the Excelsior project, great emphasis was placed on lighting through video installations. In the "Cloud Cover" project, a modular system used as a cover for temporary installations and stands, the light source radiates from clouds positioned on the ceiling, creating captivating chromatic variations. Monica Armani designed "Silenzio" for Luceplan - a lighting system combining the function of illuminating with the high soundproofing performance of the Kvadrat fabric, creating an object ideal for work or contract spaces guaranteeing a perfect balance between design and function. In addition to the Cloud Cover project, Armani has designed several temporary, mobile, dismountable and reconfigurable installations. These versatile and sustainable architectural solutions represent her sensibility to environmental issues. She created "Lounge" for Poltrona Frau - an 8000 square metre structure that can be easily disassembled and rebuilt elsewhere. "Tempo", for GiPlanet, is a flexible, temporary and reconfigurable modular structure, ideal for large or small exhibitions.
Monica Armani has established herself as one of the best-known product designers on the contemporary scene. She collaborates with many important companies like Boffi, Luceplan, Kasthall, Snaidero, Cassina, Gallotti e Radice, Molteni&C, Moroso, Effeti, Mutina, Poliform, Cappellini and Viccarbe. In the design of "Nomad", the multi-purpose pouf designed for Tribù, Armani combines comfort and technology thanks to a draining structure in EPS, padded with dry foam. Again for Tribù, she designed "Tosca". The outdoor sofa is distinguished by soft lines and a stainless steel shell, painted and covered with an innovative braided fabric: a foam mousse enclosed in a seamless sheath of knitted Textilene and polyolefins, making the fabric soft and resistant to external agents. The theme of weaving is also found in the "Emma" collection for Varaschin whose powder-coated aluminium backrest is covered with woven rope.
