Collection: Matteo Cibic

Matteo Cibic was born in 1983 in Parma. He graduated in 2001 from the Kent Institute of Art and Design in Canterbury, England and then, in 2004, in Design from the Milan Polytechnic. After an internship at Studio Camuffo in Venice in 2002 and at Officina Cibic in 2005 (with his uncle, the renowned designer Aldo Cibic, one of the founders of the Memphis Group), he studied at Fabrica in Treviso in 2006. He then worked for the April design studio in Milan. In 2009, he founded 10A, a men's garment tailoring workshop.

His studio, which alternates between Vicenza and Milan, is involved in product design, creative direction, special projects and developing innovative ideas for cultural institutions and international brands. He boasts numerous collaborations with brands like Beck's, Benetton Group (Fabrica), Bonotto Editions, Calligaris, Dodo Pomellato, Gallo Calze, Gas Jeans, HFC, Il Fanale, JCP Universe, La Rinascente, Lane Crawford, Marazzi, Miroglio Fashion Group, Moret, Mutaforma, Nespresso, Obag, PaolaC, Replay Jeans, Scarlet Splendour, Secondome Edizioni, Starbucks, Thun, Tim, Timberland, and Jaipur Tappeti.

His fruitful collaboration with the Scarlet Splendour company gave life to numerous products characterised by bright colours and unsettling shapes, among them the Duke line of sofas and upholstered armchairs; the Madame Verdoux Peac plywood bar cabinet; The Kid Peach rounded bedside table and the General Berry writing desk both in wood with drawers; the Womanin Paris vanity furniture; the Nanook of the North Lime rocking stool; The Playhouse freestanding modular bookcase; The Five Bulb ceramic floor lamp; A Trip to the Moon, a chest of drawers in MDF; and Ciuco, a brass sideboard. He created a rich collection of rugs for Jaipur Rugs- handmade in India, inspired by the shapes of the architecture and colours of the city of Jaipur. For JCP Universe, he designed a line of sofas, tables, chairs and cupboards. In the field of lighting design, he realised the Alma line of lamps in borosilicate glass for Il Fanale.

His projects stand out for their ironic and playful approach, anthropomorphic and irreverent designs, and transversal hybridisation of form and function. His production is distinguished by materials and techniques ranging from industrial series and hi-tech supply chains to handcrafted and artistic objects. His works are exhibited in museums, institutions and galleries worldwide, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Venice Biennale, the Shanghai Museum of Glass, Mudac in Lausanne, the Saint Etienne Design Biennale, and the Triennale Design Museum in Milan. His work has received numerous awards and has been published internationally. In 2017, he won the Elle Decor International Young Talent of the Year. In 2019, Silvana Annichiarico curated the exhibit 'Matteo Cibic. Paradiso dreams' (with related catalogue).
