Collection: Johannes Spalt

Johannes Spalt (1920 - 2010) was one of the most significant figures in Austrian architecture, contributing to its spread. In 1952, together with Otto Leitner, Wilhelm Holzbauer, and Friedrich Kurrent, he founded Arbeitsgruppe 4 (Working Group 4), a group that came up with pioneering designs that set an example for the following decades. His design style was based on the belief that construction should be light and transparent. His meeting with Wittmann in 1958 led Spalt to focus more on furniture design, and numerous projects resulted from this decade-long collaboration. Spalt has been an integral part of the company and, as an innovator, has led the brand down new paths, as well as playing a significant role in the development and execution of the Josef Hoffmann-designed pieces for which Wittmann is famous.
