Johan Van Hengel

Johan van Hengel (b. 1981) is a Rotterdam-based product designer with a technical background in industrial design. While studying Industrial Product Design at the University of Applied Sciences in The Hague, the Netherlands, he developed an interest in furniture, lighting, and accessory design. Tor, a comfortable coffee table designed for Montis (in collaboration with Ralf Lamble), earned him a Talent Award. In 2013, Johan started his own studio. His projects have been commissioned by several Dutch and Scandinavian design companies. His problem solving nature and focus on function, materiality, and technique in his design have led Johan to receive several awards, from Elle Decoration's Talent Award (2010) to the IF design award (2016). For HAY Johan designed the lampshade 30degrees.
