Already an international design icon, the Raffles sofa is back in trend by going up against De Padova’s research studio, which has innovated and renewed its seating. The traditional De Padova cushions in goose down and memory foam required by Maddalena, now have added polyurethane foam to boost maximum comfort, softness and support, as well as effortless maintenance without the need to plump them up.
Research that actually has its raison d’être in the collaboration Society Limonta x De Padova and the enthusiasm in bringing back a symbol of interior design with care and respect for the original project, by enhancing it through chromatic research and fabrics inspired by what Vico Magistretti appreciated in fashion: a need for minimalism, and a reverence for the quality of materials and colours.
The fabrics developed for this joint effort: a sateen weave; seersucker; striped tweed – like the first 1988 Raffles – tell of a refined and exclusive colour range, resulting from the fibres’ different colour absorptions. From amber to forest green, from deep blue to a neutral smoky grey, or quartz, Raffles is adorned in simple hues with unexpected tactile textures. The logo, Vico Magistretti Original, designed by Italo Lupi for the Fondazione Magistretti, emphasises the fundamental aspect of the focus on colour: the embroidery is RossoVico.
